I have been frequenting this place for years, regularly at first, but less and less often of late. Whilst the other reviewer rightly identifies the need for a place like this in NW2, there are a number of problems that make it a less than satisfactory experience. In a nutshell the food, service and ambience has gone down hill. It feels as though it is not trying hard enough. Obviously it is not all bad - otherwise I would not be going there - the drinks tend to be good, both alcoholic (cocktails) and the juices (mixed fruit is fantastic); some of the meze are worth a try (the green beans with sesame and soy sauce, duck spring roll, chicken pandana and falafel), the bread is good too.

However, on recent visits, the main courses have been a little mediocre and added to the poor service provided by somewhat grumpy staff, has led to me feeling a little hard done by. The prices after all are not dirt cheap.

If you go, and you probably will if you live in or around NW2, go for brunch at the weekend and take a good paper. Otherwise, choose carefully and encourage the staff to smile a little!

"I visited Shish for the first time a little while ago, after hearing great things about it. Although I didn't eat downstairs, I was treated to a fantastic cocktail in the upstairs bar, relaxing atmosphere and friendly service. They are also open quite late, so it's a good option after the pub has shut. Willesden is obviously crying out for more places like this, because it was quite busy midweek. Great live music too, the only thing I would say is the lighting is a bit harsh in places. Harsh downlights should be banned in bars!"
